MILLE-SCARLETT APPEAL UPDATE

Members of Swansea historic vehicle register and representatives from the
Ford dealership gathered at Day's Motorpark Plasmarl, to present a cheque
to The Millie-Scarlett star tribute fund,
Day's Motorgroup have generously hosted the car clubís Summer Rally for
many years. The event is attended by many different car clubs including
our twin club from Ireland, The Kinsale Vintage & Classic Motor Club.
Thanks to the efforts of SHVR, Day's and their supporters a cracking
£2,800. was donated to "Millie's" fund, which is raising money to purchase
a "Baby Transfer Pod" to enable critically ill babies and young children to
be transferred safely and comfortably to major critical care hospitals in
Wales and the west country. The advanced design of the new state of the
art pod comes with all the necessary auxiliary equipment to attend to any
emergency that may arise whilst the babies are being transferred.
Millie-scarlett was recently awarded a medal posthumously, by the order
of St. John for her selfless contribution of adding life and giving hope to
others from the gift of organ donation.
Millie-Scarlettís family are campaigning to make families aware of the
devastating effects of strep "B" and meningitis.

Saturday 23rd  July 09.30am to 12.30pm

Meet at CEM Days, Beaufort Road, Plasmarl, Swansea SA6 8HR for a car show in the Motor Park. Registration will take place in the showroom building and refreshments for those entering the rally will be available before departing at 12.30pm for a scenic run through the beautiful welsh countryside, finishing the dayís run at the Derwydd Mansion. A new venue not used by us before.

A week earlier than last year, our summer rally started on the 23rd of July
instead of the last weekend of the month. What would the weather do for
us? It hadnít been a good summer worth talking about so far.
Our Saturday event started as usual with a classic car display in front of
the Plasmarl depot of Dayís Ford dealership. So far a dry day, fingers
crossed!

The A-Team set up for business. Early Vauxhall exhaust leg guard
Run over for fitting a rally plate! Itís getting crowded here.

This year we had a larger number of entries for the road runs than last year.

We must be getting popular

This year we had a larger number of entries for the road runs than last
year. We must be getting popular. As soon as all the entrants had had
their free cuppa and a bap, Mike and Kevin got the raffle started; Kevin
had brought his sound system and used the microphone to call out the
winning ticket numbers.

Thanks to the efforts of Dennis Rees and Mike
P, there was a showroom full of prizes to get through and lots of happy
prize winners were seen walking away with their choice of gift.

23rd July 2016 Evening Do at Derwydd Mansion

This year, the finish venue for the Saturday run would be completely
different to previous years and many entrants were looking forward to
seeing what was in store for them at the end of the route which was a
reverse of one of last yearís runs. The route took cars up towards
Ystradgynlais and the Dan-yr-Ogaf caves and on over the mountain road,
ending the day at Derwydd Mansion, our first of the new venues.
For those that wanted to have a bite to eat, there was a choice of meat
rolls or salad rolls with different fillings and drinks both alcoholic and
non-alcoholic which could be enjoyed in the gardens while being
entertained by Kevin and his sound system before our second raffle prize
draw of the day with more goodies to be given away kept everyone
looking to see where they had put this morningís raffle tickets. The
tickets would be good for three raffles and they had all been told to keep
hold of them. And believe it or not, it was nice and warm in the sun!
Derwydd Mansion proved to be a good finishing point as everyone stayed put
to enjoy the sun and music. One down, one to go. Things were looking
better all the time; you do worry when putting these events together that
everything will go off smoothly. What would tomorrow bring for day
two?

What would tomorrow bring for day
two?

You know what they say; every silver lining has a cloud!

The Sunday 24th arrived at Mercedes -Benz
with more than a cloud. There were 1000ís of the little darlings all wanting to do their best to drop their water before the others could.

Just like last year, it rained! Did I mention rain? We also had low cloud
thrown in; the only thing missing was a bit of plague and pestilence.
Iím not sure some of the staff at the Mercedes showroom didnít think
that they had got the plague of locusts. They had laid on refreshments
and nibbles as previously, but this time they were cleared out in no time.
I think our lot were hungry with the cooler weather.
In gratitude for their hospitality a small presentation was made to the
manager before we all left for the second road run.

Thank you for putting up with us all.

The cars all set off into the rain for the scenic route that Adrian had put
together. What a pity the weather couldnít have stayed nice and sunny
for one more day, they would have seen some stunning views on the
way.
Adrian found a pub that would take our gang for lunch, so we instantly
filled their bar area and in normal SHVR manner, we soon arranged the
tables to suit us. The food was quickly served considering the short
notice and it was a choice of roast chicken, beef or lamb. Everyone
enjoyed the meal; some even put a dessert away to round the meal off.
We followed the route master off into the gloom. Every time we thought
it was getting better, it reverted back to rubbish. In fact as we climbed up
the side of the valley, Howard who was in front of me in his Grey Morris
Traveller, he blended in with the clouds so well we lost sight of him once
or twice despite being right behind him.

Adrian aborted the run halfway
and we all returned to Swansea ready for the evening get together at the
Swansea Bay Golf Club. Another new venue for us to try.
The visitors only had a short walk over the road from their rooms at the
Towers Hotel so didnít need to worry about driving. We also had a good
turnout of our club members this year, which was nice to see.
The Golf Club had given us the use of their main function room and
provided a hot buffet for the evening meal, served quickly and with no
shortage of choices. Following the meal which had been accompanied by
our musical entertainer in the background, it was time to get the raffle
tickets back out for round three and everyone had their hearts set on the
two top prizes. The draw seemed to be never ending with all the goodies
on display.

I donít know what to have next!

Quite how Mike and Dennis got so many prizes together I donít know,
but it does show what companies can do when it is for a good cause. This
year the rally is supporting Millieís Grand Appeal to raise funds to
purchase another baby pod, and judging by the number of raffle tickets
sold, the fund must have done rather well.
The top prize donated by Swansea Mercedes of a driving experience and
hotel stay, was won by our own Ron van Heeswijk much to his delight.
No doubt his wife Alison will enjoy a weekend break. The other prize of
a very nice picnic hamper, donated by Mike Palmer, was won by a
couple from the Kinsale club. At least both clubs shared the two top
prizes.
The function A nice finish to the weekend
