New Yearís Day. Not the sort of date you would normally expect to see a
lot of people out and about early in the morning. That is unless you had
entered the Brass Monkey run.
This year the event was starting later than usual because the lunch booking
was for the second sitting and we thought it would give any revellers a bit
of extra sleep time. How wrong can you be? Despite the start time shown
on the entry form, a large number of members turned up early at
Homestores, our start venue once again, courtesy of Patrick and Jeanette.
As always members were treated to tea and coffee with plenty of mince
pies and other nibbles to start their day off. It was also a chance to compare
Christmasís, relatives and all the normal topics of this time of year.

Have you had a mince pie yet Brian?

No more room at the inn, as they say.

It was only a short road run taking the SHVR horde around Gower to the
King Arthur Hotel in Reynoldston, our destination for our New Year Day
lunch. As last year, we had booked the restaurant completely for the
second sitting. This way we could all eat and chat without having to rush
away to allow the next set of diners to enter.
Once again we were having to talk nicely to the dining room manager to
expand the seating plan and once again the staff came up trumps and
squeezed us all in together. It is so nice to see an organisation which has
such a can-do attitude. A big thank you to all who supported the event,
which once more was oversubscribed. It is obviously a popular change
from the rest of the annual celebrations at this time of year.
